I'll explore MP3Gain futher, but I believe if you adjust the volume,
the tags get written automatically.

This shouldn't be a problem if you don't have SlimServer Volume
Adjustment enabled.

I'll confirm later, but in the meantime, you can tell if the volume
adjustment tags are there in Mp3tag - if it shows an APEv2 tag, that's
the volume adjustment tag added by MP3Gain.  You can reconfigure Mp3tag
to show tag types present in the file by following this:
