dunno, maybe try using the remove tags feature in mp3tag to strip out any extra tag schemes that may be hiding in the file.
(perhaps the scanner is picking up a family of tags without the artistsort you added) i only have a few mp3 files, but they have all been forcibly standardized to ID3v2.3 (UTF16), i remove any 3.1 or APE tags, to prevent any chance of other software getting confused.
