It sure looks like the Intel Core 2 Duos from what I can see. It just
demolishes everything else in encoding benchmarks, and not by a small
amount either.

It seems that the 4 MB cache E6600 and E6700 have a significant
advantage over the 2 MB cache E6300 and E6400.

Also, the E6600 is priced right in the sweet spot for cost/performance.
The E6700 is too much, the E6600 is tolerable.

My SlimServer/ripper/encoder PC blew its motherboard recently. I
already bought a replacement power supply (incorrect diagnosis) and a
replacement CPU (incorrect diagnosis) so I'm faced with purchasing a
used replacement motherboard. Before it comes to this, I am wondering
whether spending money on obsolete 4 year old computer technology is
worth it.

I can't afford the new stuff, but I can't really afford the old stuff
either. So if it's all borrowed money, what does it matter if I borrow
$250 to keep my old hardware running or borrow $600 to get entirely new
stuff?

As a bonus, it looks like the E6600 may be more power-efficient than
the P4 2.8C I'm trying to keep going.

Ideas, opinions?
