Interesting comment Skunk.

I had assumed that AccurateRip actually checks the overread
capabilities of the drive. That assumption was, in part, based on the
fact that when you set it up, you get this a messages like this
displayed...

It is possible that instead of testing, it tries to get its information
from a central database. Although that raises the question of how the
database would get updated as new drive models are made. So perhaps it
does do testing.

What is certain is that Spoon (the AccurateRip developer) will know the
answer! He can be found on the 'AudioSense'
