Not sure what your point is here. AAC may contain propietary code,
however your original statement "aac is a proprietarty Apple format" is
still incorrect.

Sorry but you simply stated "there are no command line tools
for encoding.", which again is incorrect and why I included the Nero
link. As you have no doubt realised by now, there are several choices
on Linux - FAAC and the Helix Community one spring to mind.
