Yep  that might be it - thanks; helps to read the posts more carefully.

I installed LAME and EAC a couple of months back and ended up with WAV
files. Guess I shoved WAV in the setup somewhere in stead of FLAC. As I
gather WAV takes up more room than FLAC with no offsetting advantage I
will look over the docs at the URL and review the setup. I downloaded
FLAC 1.1.4 yesturday in preparation for much ripping.
