IMHO Genre is something you need to work out. I have a simple 'top level' list of Blues, Country, Jazz, Reggae, Rock/Pop, Progressive Rock, Soul, World, Folk, Funk, New Age and Classical. But Classical then has a sub-genre of Keyboard, Lute, Woodwind, String Quartet, Guitar etc. Of course, some people would want Classical to be Renaissance, Baroque, etc.
