Is there any decision as to which program is 'best' for ripping to Flac? (Assuming, of course, that Flac is the best......) EAC is too fiddly I find and I cannot get my head around it, my stupidity. DbAmp has a silly GUI. I use EasyCD-DA Extractor; as it is easy (sic)to use. But did I not read somewhere that somebody had compared the hex code output between the original and the ripped for the various programs? That is running the input and output files through a hex comparator, simple to do but time consuming. I want to ensure that what I am ripping is the best I can get given the parameters of my system or any other system come to that. We can fiddle around with the amplification etc AFTER we know that we have the best source. (MP3 lacks much - which I never use - but it is handy for people.) This is a thought that has been echoed by many but, to my my knowledge, without any coming out with any definitive ideas. Is the jury out about the best ripper, and also the best user friendly, 'Jack the Ripper'? Best Ivan PS 1.Mains cleaning is so important, especially on the 100 - 300Hz response, another topic. 2. Normalization is importnat on some (old) recordings. I do not know how to determine if a track has to be normalized or not. Sometimes it destroys and others it enhances. Certain tracks on the Doors, for example, sound far better normalized - Riders in the Sky if I remember corrrectly. Is there no intellegent way of scanning whether to bring something up to the 0db level? Or is it all suck it and listen? Anon
