I would try to convince him that EAC can do a better job getting the
data off the disc than his CD transport, because when the PC drive is
controlled by EAC it can re-read as many times as necessary. You'll
also get a warning if there was an error unable to be corrected with C2
or re-reading, whereas with the CD player rip you're only option would
be to listen closely to the whole thing.

Beyond that, it would require a herculean effort to rip, track,
convert, and tag a large pile of discs that way.
