There is a ticket about multiple core/CPU support on the flac2mp3 homepage with a suggested, rather elegant solution: http://robinbowes.com/projects/flac2mp3/ticket/87 I don't know if Robin have looked into it yet or if others have confirmed that it works. It might be worth checking out.
