I think CatBus is 100% on the money on this one. You can choose to tag individual tracks with their release years, but don't expect applications to be able to do anything with the information. Virtually all apps treat the YEAR (or DATE) tag as the year of the album. So if you tag individual years it's going to be a crapshoot as to which one is used for the album. Your best best is to do as CatBus suggests - use a custom tag to store the track year and then maybe someday applications will be able to use the data. At that time you'll just need to rename the tag.
