Re: »invisible characters« (i.e., blanks) in tags

I absolutely -hate- software that tries to patronize me (i.e., MS Win
Update enabling a disabled Firewall with each update, MusicIP insisting
that they’re right to change »Guns N' Roses« to »Guns 'n' Roses«
or »W.I.N.D.« to »Wind«, or software that thinks it -has- to trim
certain fields in tags).

-What I put there, I want there. Basta.-

If I want a tag with just a blank or two albums called »Help! « and
»Help!« it’s entirely -my- decision—or -my- problem.

It won’t help that -some- software further down the chain tries
to »correct« assumed »user errors« while other software doesn’t.

It -will- help curing the problem at its origin, i.e. repair the tag if
you don’t like its contents.

I just had the same problem (»invisible« blanks in tags, also missing
ReplayGain since I used SAM Broadcaster before which has a good AGC and
I never liked changing data like with MP3Gain). So what did I do instead
of lamenting that some software should cure my lazyness? Right. -Correct
it. Within each and every of my currently 23.541 titles.- Took the PC 6
days in total. So what? It’s fixed now where it -should- be
fixed.

And I’m happy about being responsible for what I put into the
system and have the system do what’s expected. -Not- change my
intention and work to my bidding—and -not- to the likeness of
some programmer who probably not even knows what I want and why it
might make sense in a special case. Garbage in—garbage out, as we
programming folk say.

Just my 2 cents.
