Hi,

I am looking for a Linux shell tool that I can use to automatically
convert a collection of Apple Lossless files to FLAC.

Background: I am using iTunes and now have gotten a SqueezeBox setup.
The workflow that I plan to use is to rip CDs using dBpoweramp to Apple
Lossless (since I read it is more accurate than iTunes), maintain my
library in iTunes (since I am used to it and love the interface) and
convert the files to FLAC for the Squeezebox (to not have the
transcoding on the server and to be able to seek when playing).

I have a Synology DS-408 where the SqueezeCenter is running and I want
to do the transcoding there as well, hence the question about
transcoding with Linux. The easiest for me would be to have the iTunes
library on the NAS and to have a script there automatically converting
it to FLAC, either manually triggered after changes or in a nightly
batch run. However not sure yet if this is feasible on an 800 MHz CPU
with a library of a bit less than 500 albums.

Apart from tips on the right tool for Linux of course all kinds of
comments and suggestions to this workflow are welcome.

See you, Robert
