Phil,

I have briefly tried both foobar2000 and WINAMP with their MLP plugins.
Both have the capability of playing .mlp files which means that there is
a simple way of ripping DVD-Audio discs and playing the files back in
their original lossless state on a 5.1 surround system. The bad news is
that it all bypasses Squeezecenter and Squeezebox devices. You have to
have a device running foobar2000/WINAMP that has analog surround outputs
that you plug into a surround receiver/amp that has the corresponding
inputs and you are in business. This is not a great solution for me for
many reasons but I am encouraged by the momentum, though any squeezebox
that would support it would have to have the 5.1 analog outputs and I
don't think I have heard anything about that being a possibility.

Maybe it is time for me to find a low power PC with the analog outputs
and add that to my configuration.
