Essentially, you shouldn't need to do anything with various artist albums - don't need to set a compilation tag, and don't need to set an album artist tag. If you have set an album artist tag (eg. ALBUM ARTIST=Various Artists), then you should also set COMPILATION=1, otherwise it will assume it is not a compilation.
