Bert, the problems you are running into are due to many many factors, and you've gotten a lot of good info here in this thread.
basically, the question i would have for you is this: are you ok with conforming your tags to "work best" with SC, damn the rest of the apps out there; OR do you want or need your tags to work with other apps and SC? this goes a long way to determining what you should do. 1. if you want your tags to work best with SC and damn the rest, you could simply not use ALBUMARTIST or comp tags to start at all, and then do an initial scan and allow SC to detect ANY artist mismatch on an album as a comp. if it gets a bunch wrong, then on those alone either set an AA, or you could add a Comp=0 tag. (as mentioned, keep in mind TPE2/Band has been hijacked to mean AA by almost every major app, which only pertains to the id3 spec) 2. if however you want or need SC to work with other apps, then what you do depends on which apps you need to work with. but in general, i find you can simply set AA tags for everything and basically be all set for SC and most other apps, as long as you are aware of this bug and use a workaround for it if needed: https://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=9523 now, if you want SC to know something is a comp, (and it isn't at all necessary for SC to know that btw, but if you want SC to know), then you simply add Comp=1 tags to all the files that already have AA tags. i use method 2, others use method 1, its simply a matter of preference, and whats easiest for you. as to your guest artists thing, if you want them in the lists as their own artists, you either have to add secondary ARTIST frames to the tags, OR setup a system in your tags using a defined seperator character, such as a slash or & or + symbol. so your ARTIST frame could look like this: ARTIST=Bob Dylan/Neil Young and if you told SC that " / " was your separator character, it should see both artists as separate and independent of each other for making lists or what not. --- having said all that, i would prefer SC did not rely on only "one master list" all the time that required changes to options and rescans to change. further, i don't think SC should enforce mandatory VA auto detection, that should only be optional, and instead it should ignore AA tags, and use comp tags, and/or user defined string recognition to ID comps to SC. finally, SC should not use the terms "comp" and "various artists" interchangeably. -- MrSinatra www.lion-radio.org using: sb2 & sbc (my home) / sbr (parent's home) - w/sc 7.3.4b - win xp pro sp3 ie8 - 3.2ghz / 2gig ram - 1tb wd usb2 raid1 - d-link dir-655 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ MrSinatra's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2336 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=67172 _______________________________________________ ripping mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/ripping
