I agree with all of that, plus there are three other features of dBp
that I have found especially useful. I have no idea if MM also does
these, or for that matter, if you need them.

1) The ease of adding additional tags at rip/encoding time. I always
add an ARTISTSORT tag so that SBS sorts artists by "lastname,
firstname", but displays them using the ARTIST tag, which is "firstname
lastname". With EAC I always had to add this tag later via MP3tag.

2) Simultaneous encoding to FLAC and MP3. I keep a parallel copy of my
library in MP3, which I use for my portable players and my laptop when
traveling. Before switching to dBp I had to do this as a separate step,
using flac2mp3.pl or foobar2k.

3) Support for album replaygain tags. EAC only does track RG, so after
ripping/encoding with EAC I had to run the tracks through a Perl script
(apply_replaygain.pl) or Foobar2000 to add the album RG tags.

That said, I think dBp's improved metadata alone is worth the cost.
Spend some time editing the metadata that comes from freedb, make a
ballpark estimate of what your time is worth, and see what you think.

Finally, note that dBp Reference has a 30-day free trial period. Do
like I did and time the beginning of your trial period for when you know
you will do a lot of ripping, so you can really see if *you* think it's
worth it. I think after the 30 days are over you can still freely use
the stripped-down free version.
