Do you have any squeezeboxes? The best way to figure out a lot of things is to simply experiment. Create a file with nonASCII and see if it will read it, for example. Even if you don't have the hardware, just download the free software, download squeezeplay or squeezesoft (a PC based player), also free, and play around with it.
