Phil (and Mr. Sinatra),

Thanks for your feedback and examples. I've been playing around with
Squeezebox and the Server and messing a bit with my tags in the
process.

I am aware of the Various Artists "Bug", but I am finding a few work
arounds, which may not be ideal but seem to quickly utilize what I am
looking for if I want it. The first is that I setup a slightly
different name for the compilations version of Various Artists (e.g
-Various Artists-). However, as Phil noted and I noticed, unless an
album is actually tagged as a compilation (all my tracks have an "album
artist" tag), you won't see all the track artists. I set the
Compilation=1 tag on my true compilation albums, and everything works
fine and all the track artists show up for those albums, and those
albums show up under what I call the "correct Album Artist"... e.g. my
John Lennon (Tribute) as I earlier discussed or other Album Artists as
needed, and they show up under -Various Artists-.

I am considering just blatantly labeling all albums as compilations
although that would mean my -Various Artists- menu item would end up
with all my albums, and I imagine that could be a mess.... See below

I like Mr. Sinatra do mostly use "Album Artist" more for sorting as
most software and devices can't handle the ArtistSort and similar sort
tags (or they didn't when I originally tried to clean up my tags). My
library is at around 20,000 tracks, so Album Artist also helped clean up
my artist listing in various software. In the time since I cleaned up
my ID3 tags, I've become a fan of jazz so album artist has allowed me to
identify all Miles Davis related albums under his name while using track
artists to more specifically identify all versions of Miles Davis's
bands as needed (e.g. "Miles Davis Quartet".

If I ever find that I can make Media Monkey respect the "Band" tag for
what it is, I might utilize that tag to further separate band members
etc as it should be, but for now it will have to be redundant with the
separate "Album Artist" tag I set up for the squeezebox.

The one thing I like about what Phil showed in his Custombrowse setup
is that I can probably do everything I want there, and perhaps I don't
need to worry about what the Compilation is set as. I am also hopeful
that I can use the Custombrowse and Customscan to add some other
features I use elsewhere like Subgenres.

I do appreciate all the help and discussion here. I am really liking
the device and software, and while it may not be perfect (nothing is),
it is definitely manageable.

At the least, the software always shows me flaws I never noticed in my
tagging. In this case, I find that MediaMonkey while supposedly
handling multiple-genres, never really tags separate genre fields, so
I'll now have to go back through with MP3tag and separate my semi-colon
separated genre fields into separate genre fields as needed. How fun it
all is...

Thanks again for all the help.
