YEAR and ORIGYEAR problems

I have only recently become a SBS user having migrated from Firefly
Media Server. I have been using YEAR (TYER) and ORIGYEAR (TORY) as
follows:

non-classical music

YEAR = year of album release
ORIGYEAR = year of release of individual tracks

Therefore, a greatest hits album might have YEAR = 2008 and ORIGYEAR
varying from 1975 to 2000

classical music

YEAR = year of recording or work
ORIGYEAR = year the work was composed

I was hoping to set up custom libraries to utilise this data but I can
see from this thread that this is not going to be possible.

I wasn't aware that ORIGYEAR took precedence over YEAR in SBS but that
does explain some of the odd results I've been seeing!

Is the SBS logic likely to change in a future release or should I be
thinking again about my tagging structure?

Anyone have any ideas how I can achieve what I want to achieve above?

Thanks
