I realize that this may require a doing a bit of work on your end but this is how I've been handling multi-disc sets for quite some time now.
1) I place all of the tracks from all the discs into a single directory, however the tracks are numbered 101, 102,...,201, 202,...,301, 302,...etc and for sets with ten or more discs I add a extra 0 or 1 to the front, e.g. 0101, 0201,....1001, 1101, etc. 2) Using mp3tag (or any other GOOD tag editor) I make sure that: a) the track numbers are correct b) using the "extended tags" feature verify that the "disc number" field is blank. c) that the "album" field is the same for all the tracks, i.e. that "disc 1", "disc 2", etc is not present. If there is any information about a specific disc that I want to keep, such as whether it's a "live" disc or for specific years, I place that information in the "comment" field.
