Try playing it with the SB volume on MAX and replaygain turned off. Does it say HDCD on your amp then? HDCD is a special encoding of Redbook CD's using a code buried in the 16th bit which an HDCD-capable receiver/DAC can react to. Nothing to do with high-rez. If this is an HDCD, you can convert the FLAC you have to a 44.1/24-bit format via an HDCD codec in Foobar or DBPoweramp for best replay quality. I am assuming you are using EAC in its most accurate mode - if you get any kind of bit-errors in the rip from EAC, the HDCD coding may be damaged. Because HDCD relies on the 16th bit, this must be passed correctly to the DAC - this is why volume or replaygain both block HDCD decoding. -- Phil Leigh You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it ain't what you'd call minimal...
