Any CD player can play an HDCD. On a normal player, the hidden HDCD
code is ignored. 

IF your receiver is HDCD-capable (which it sounds like it must be if it
is displaying "HDCD" on its screen) then it will decode the extra HDCD
capabilities. For this to work, SB vol must=max and replaygain and
crossfade must be disabled.

Some HDCD's (usually compilations) have a mixture of HDCD and non-HDCD
tracks.
