I think you probably have the right format.

The problem may be whether you have the right equipment and settings.

The settings are easy:

1. You have to have your squeezebox set for 100% volume (no less).
2. You can't be using replay gain. I usually wipe those setting
completely from my DTS or AC3 based files.
3. You can't be using cross-fades

The equipment. You need:

1. A squeezebox 2 or better
2. You need a digital connection between the squeezebox 2 and your
receiver/amplifier. Standard RCA type connection (red/white) cables
will not work.
a. This can be an optical cable or
b. Digital coax
3. Your receiver needs to be able to decode DTS and/or AC3 type input.

The only way you'll be able to test it is with your final setup since
most computers don't have the ability to decode that. You don't even
want to try as that noise you hear can ruin speakers.

You can test out the wav files directly, although if you've gotten that
far, the difference between the wave and flac would be minimal.

You won't be able to use these files on any receiver or setup that is
not compliant with the requirements.

For my system (I have 2 squeezeboxes), I use an Optical cable on my
Duet to my receiver with no problems. My squeezebox radio can't handle
those files. I usually use a genre called Digital to keep those files
in their own places and provide a way to filter so that in everyday
use, I don't accidentally play those files unless I really intend to.
