My primary purpose was to keep Alison Krause out of my list. I have generally avoided multiple Album Artists because for other software it makes things very complicated. LMS and its predecessors are the only software I have used (I'm sure there are others) that would allow or shall I say function with multiple Album Artists.
As it is, I use Custom Browse to have separate Artist (CB) and Album Artist (CB) menus so that when I want to find an artist I can find everything including the compilations while utilizing the Album Artist or built in/standard Artist menu to keep things uncluttered. Ultimately, it is a matter of what will work for you. JJ gave a great summary of what each method would do and how you can tackle it. In terms of "one" artist and their variations, I typically include the variations in the ARTIST tag but leave the variations out of the ALBUMARTIST and ARTISTSORT tags. I'm not sure if it matters much other than it helps me out when I am dealing with Jazz musicians, specifically it helps me for Miles Davis... I actually leave Tom Petty as Tom Petty (not the full band) and Springsteen as Springsteen. I guess I can care less about the variations there, or I count on my memory to be better. -- emalvick ------------------------------------------------------------------------ emalvick's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=35382 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=93134 _______________________________________________ ripping mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/ripping
