Thanks everyone. I have a person who tried last night to log in remotely to
install and setup Rivendell for me. That is what I am looking for. As I said,
all of this is totally new to me and I am learning as I go. But there is still
a hige learning curve for me. Anyone willing to do that, please just let me
know. I appreciate any help.

Troy

There used to be a lot of useful information in the Rivendell groups mailing
list archive as well; however, unless someone here downloaded a zip of the
archive and can make it available via ftp or something like that it may not be
available to you, as there was a warning that the archive was being unavailable
as of Aug 31, 2011

Hi Troy ,
some of these items are customized install packages of linux OS's that have
been modified to include the Rivendell application. They often refer to them
here as appliances.

You have already installed and set up ubuntu, there is also an option if you go
through the wiki to just add new repositories (( I believe it used to be
tryphon.org within the wiki text )software online install package sites) that
it specifies, I believe the last one was 1.7.x which is an older version but
will get you started if that is what you would like to do without having to
reinstall the OS.

There are a couple of the install CD/DVD packages Rivendell 2.x.x and Centos
5.6 and/or Centos 6.0 ( not sure if this one is available yet or not). |There
is also an older openSUSE version of linux with RD included in it as well; but
beware these are done by pros here and have been customized for specific uses
and may not include a lot of the user friendlier GUI programs that you might
read about elsewhere when trying to understand linux. RRubuntu is a customized
version installer package developed by the chaps here that does the same thing
but installs RD 2 series with ubuntu OS. Again this is custom for performance
and a lot of linux GUI's may not be available to someone learning linux as well.

The developers may have a script that will do the same thing and allow you to
install without redoing your ubuntu OS completely; maybe Geoff could confirm
that??

The last time I checked the online user manual, it was quite informative, but
again it was only up to date to rivendell 1.7 series versions.

I'm with you on that one, I'd definitely go with RRAbuntu,

Would it be easier for a first time user to try RRAbuntu or the
RDappliance versions of Rivendell?
Cheers
