Unless the system is facing the public Internet, I generally disable all of the 
repositories except 'Paravel-Broadcast' once the system is put into production. 
 That way, you won't be getting nagged to install updates every other day, 
while still getting notifications of Rivendell updates.

RD 2.x does not use sox(1) at all.
