Sorry for taking so long getting back to this. I had a 4 day weekend (:

Anyway, I found the sample rate setting you were talking about in
version 2 ( Its in SYSTEM SETTINGS) and yes, it was set to 44100 yet I
still get the fast audio.

Additionally, I did a "speaker-test" like you suggested, and it says the
rate is set to 480000.

So I made a .asoundrc file and put it in my HOME directory, and I am
still getting the 48k bitrate. Additionally, I have looked at the wiki
link you posted, and googled how to change the Alsa rate to 44100, and
it still is at 48k.

I also created a /etc/asound.conf file with the following:

pcm.!default {
        type hw
        card 0
        rate 44100
}

ctl.!default {
        type hw
        card 0
        rate 44100
}

=======

To summarize.

1. created a /home/rduser/.asoundrc file

2. created a /etc/asound.conf file

3.edited /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf and changed the
          following line as follows:
              defaults.pcm.dmix.rate 44100

4. speaker-test is still reporting 48000

==========

Additionally, if I reboot the pc, and don't run rivendell, I can open up
a wav file that rivendell plays out of the /var/snd folder, and it plays
just fine. However AFTER rivendell runs, and I close it down, it will
play at the 48000 bit rate.

========================

In version 2 there is a sample rate setting inside edit host somewhere
(I=
=20actually looked at it today and still can't remember what section).
D=
ouble check that matches 44.1.

Also double check that alsa is set to 44.1 too. Its probably defaulting
=
to 48k. If you run speaker-test (apt-get install alsa-tools if its not
i=
nstalled already) you'll get some white noise generated but it also
shows=
=20you the current sample rate like the following:

speaker-test 1.0.25

Playback device is default
System parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 1 channels
Using 16 octaves of pink noise
Rate set to 48000Hz (requested 48000Hz)

You need to either make a .asoundrc file in your home directory or
asound=
.conf inside /etc

The wiki page for asound config is over this way:

.org/main/index.php/Asoundrc
