Off-hand, I can't. Like many, what I know has been learned over many years, as requirements present themselves, and my one still functioning memory brain cell has too much other irrelevant junk to keep track of. ;) The important thing is that they are *just* scripts. Typically used to set paths, set environment variables, which terminal emulator, and such, but there is no reason they can't be extended, or call another script to perform various other tasks immediately upon log-in. They just happen to be scripts that are automagically called by the log-in into the shell, and executed before the shell is presented to the user, so they can be used to "pre setup" about anything one might wish. WindowsNT did something similar, though much, much more abbreviated, with batch files in server profile directories, if you have any familiarity with that style of setting a user environment through a log-on script. -- Cowboy http://cowboy.cwf1.com _______________________________________________ Rivendell-dev mailing list [email protected] http://lists.rivendellaudio.org/mailman/listinfo/rivendell-dev
