Hi,

I'm kind of paranoid about silences. Rivendell by itself does no silence checking and as already mentioned by others its not a good idea to do it all on one machine (in case the machine dies). Half way through the broadcast chain I have a Guardian silence detector that has a hardware mp3 player on the stand by feed.

This then gets split to codecs for broadcast.

As I have an icecast server for Internet streaming, I also run liquidsoap to silence detect on that which plays a random mp3 playlist if all else fails. So if we go silent and lose the main broadcast codecs the Internet stream can be used as a further backup. I could setup liquidsoap to mimic the rivendell templates but its too much effort programming config files for the rare occasions we need it.

Hello,

We use silentjack (http://www.aelius.com/njh/silentjack/). Then we can
trigger any RML command to a central Rivendell server that would
eventually dispatch to an emergency Rivendell player, for example.

NO

On its own it doesn't. But I think its possible to run the RD output thru a
silence sense device (say an RDL ACR-1,
http://www.rdlnet.com/product.php?page=130), and have the sensor's relay
closure trip an RML command to play a Fill Log or some other audio event.

Of course, this also means Rivendell needs a GPIO board or hacked USB joystick
device so that said closure can be read by the software.

So NO, but Y-yeah-h...
