The silence detector should be triggered rarely. Though experience tells me
that isn't always the case (e.g. gaps where split audio should have fired
during network programs, presenters going off to make tea and not hitting
the sequence/auto button at 4am).

The catch with your suggestion is that you need a complete standalone copy
of Rivendell running. That's audio library, database, etc. that all need to
be separately maintained. It's much easier to have a CD or MP3 player kick
into life. Especially on a windy hilltop when your TX link goes down.
