My goal is to have a setup similar to David Brown's: Win7 on one side for office- and report-related stuff, and Rivendell on the other side for training purposes.
I'd like our volunteers to be able to take the laptop home and become familiar with the various Rivendell pieces -- without "threatening" the production systems. And I can add the RDSelect application so the laptop could be used as secondary workstation when all the station's Rivendell PCs are in use. The Win7 side has the MySQL Workbench installed, which includes a MySQL server. I take a backup of the Rivendell database and import it onto the laptop so we can generate OpenOffice reports against the database without requiring a connection to the production system. (That's the theory: the latest OpenOffice doesn't seem to play nicely with the MySQL connectors and the Report Writer is...not that good. LibreOffice seems to work better and I'll probably switch to that instead.) I'm using v2 of the Appliance. This is a donated "Compal" (ie, white box) laptop, and the hardware is weird enough that v1 doesn't detect things like the wireless adapter. v2 does better, although it has its own problems. I don't recall the exact layout of the v2 system (it's been wiped to re-install Win7), but I *think* it used all 4 primary partitions. If that's the case, it's not gonna go with the 2 Win7 primaries that are already there. I've experimented a little bit with the Appliance installation's partition manager, but I can't find a magic setup that the installer likes. I can wipe the laptop and install the appliance to see what the partition layout wants, but I was hoping the collective wisdom would allow me to bypass doing the Win7 install (and maintenance!) again. <smile> Regards, Mike Carroll KPTZ 91.9 Port Townsend On Sat, Feb 15, 2014 at 9:00 AM, David Brown < [email protected]> wrote: > Just noticed I wasn't sending to the list but just to Alan.
