I've got differing audio hardware in the machines so I don't seem to be able to use John's suggestion (I should be able to, but when I fool with the daemons I wind up cursed :) When I try Waynes solution I get an "unknown database error" which I don't quite understand. I even tried doing a backup on the new system and get the same result. my command line looks like this "mysql -u root -p /home/wlnz/back20140311.sql" Thanks for your thoughts!
