Probably unrelated by a mile, but my older HP Compaq's did this in general.
Turned out to be faulty power supply each time something in the room was
turned on or off the USB mouse or keyboard would momentarily reset.
Sometimes it would have to be unplugged and back in for the PC to recognise
it.

I have searched the archives and no one else has posted this problem that
I can find. I have installed the Paravel broadcast automation appliance
this week and the mouse will freeze/stop working after just a few minutes
of use. I have to reboot to get the mouse back but it always freezes. I
have installed this on a Dell Optiplex 740 dual core 64 bit processor, 2GB
Ram, 1TB hard drive, ALSA compatible M-Audio Delta 44 sound card and USB
mouse and keyboard. After the mouse freezes the USB keyboard will still
work using the up/down and F keys but the mouse stops no matter what USB
port I use. Appreciate any help.
