What kind of mouse? USB or PS/2?

I have searched the archives and no one else has posted this problem that I can find. I have installed the Paravel broadcast automation appliance this week and the mouse will freeze/stop working after just a few minutes of use. I have to reboot to get the mouse back but it always freezes. I have installed this on a Dell Optiplex 740 dual core 64 bit processor, 2GB Ram, 1TB hard drive, ALSA compatible M-Audio Delta 44 sound card and USB mouse and keyboard. After the mouse freezes the USB keyboard will still work using the up/down and F keys but the mouse stops no matter what USB port I use. Appreciate any help.
