Hi Chris,

The hum you are hearing is probably due to 2 capacitors in the breakout
box.  

2 of the caps in those 1010 breakout boxes frequently go bad, and once
they do the thing takes on a wicked hum.  I can't recall what their
rating is at the moment, but I know they are near in the upper/far left
corner of the lower board in that box (that is, if you're standing in
front of the box as if it were rack mounted), near where the power plug
is.  They are both the same rating.  Replace them both and chances are
your hum will go away.

So far I have had 3 of these boxes all fail (and I've repaired them) in
the same way.
