Just along that line of thought, Rivendell is meant to be an automation
system, not an audio processing system.

And when thinking of the *nix philosophy "do one task and do it well",
it makes a lot of sense to leave Rivendell to do its task and let
another system focus on the processing. Considering that I've often
seen used but still perfectly functional used processors being sold for
the less then $1000 range (if you're an analog plant then 8000a's and
8100's still sound great on air IMHO), it would seem top me to make more
sense to go that route even if the budget is tight.

Stereotool does have a role that it can play too, if you wanted to build
your own processor or get that on-air sound with an online stream and
such. But for Stereotool I'd put it in its own system and not try and
run it on the same computer as a Rivendell computer. That (to me) just
seems to be asking for something to go wrong (hardware fails and you
really could have dead air for quite some time, etc)
