That’s correct.

No.  That method was deprecated ages ago (in v1.0.0rc0 to be precise, released 
04/10/2008).

It *shouldn’t* make any difference.  That said, nothing Rivendell does requires 
it, so I generally disable it.

Not at present.  I’d gladly accept a pull request to remedy such (or better 
yet, to make it work there without ’special’ instructions being required)!  I 
don’t run Debian myself.
