Eric, One other thing I just thought of. If you get a chance, stop by: http://www.knoppix.net/ Download knoppix, burn it to a CD, and boot your machine with it. Everything is loaded from memory, and once the machine is up and running (takes about 30 seconds), you'll have a fast Linux machine that even has KDE running. On my PIII 1Ghz laptop with 384MB of ram, it really flies (except for OpenOffice, but once that loads it is fast). When you are done, shutdown the system and remove the CD.
