Since switching window managers/desktop environments may not be
your prefered solution, I suggest bumping up your memory as well.
While not the fastest by far, my Pentium III 450MHz magically
became usable again upon upgrading it from 128MB RAM to 640MB.
Just say NO to swapping! :)
