This is slightly off the topic of Linux, but on topic for OSS.

After unabashedly scoffing that a Apache could compete with his
beloved Sambar server on a Win2k box, a friend of mine from work
has installed Apache 1.3.? webserver and doesn't show any remorse
for having switched Sambar off.

He's so totally thrilled with Apache, in fact, that he's
interested in the Apache James server. For those who aren't
familiar (like me), this is an smtp/pop3/nntp server written and
expandable entirely in Java.

He asked me today what "all my Unix buddies" used for mail server
and what they thought of James. I honestly told him that the
vast majority of *nix users I know run one of sendmail, qmail,
postfix, or exim, and that I'd never heard good nor bad about
James at all.

Does anyone have any experience or information regarding this
piece of software? Any input is appreciated.

PS: I did direct him to google.com and groups.google.com, but he
doesn't trust them; he asked specifically for the opinions of my
"Unix buddies"... ...which is a compliment. ...

Say "Thank you". :)

Thanks, and apologies for the OT post,
Tim Hammerquist

Yes I know you can see it in MSIE,
but you could feed MSIE a banana and it would think it was HTML
