I didn't see this post to the list, and I left in a hurry, so I'm not sure
why it didn't go. But I sent this Tuesday Morning.

Just got off the phone with Charter. "We have decided to block all
incoming ports in the interest of security". When asked why notification
was not sent "Because this would have only affected our customers who
are running servers which is clearly forbidden in our corporate use
policy". I told them that in the past I used to recommend Charter as a
"decent" broad band ISP, but now I will recommend AGAINST using charter
at all costs to all of my friends and associates.

AT ALL COSTS DO NOT USE CHARTER COMMUNICATIONS AS YOUR ISP!!!

Here are the reasons why:
1. In general my experience with their first line techs has been
completely unsatisfactory. I have been hung up on several times, and
basically any computing choices made outside the box are "not
supported".

2. The tech that came out would initially not hook up a line to the room
I wanted it in, claiming that the crawlspace underside of the house was
too wet.

3. When the line was eventually hooked up the tech dasiy chained the
connection off of two other splitters, and in my opinion did an
unprofessional job.

4. Due to this, initial connection at this residence was rought with
line quality issues that Charter refused to address until I complained
loudly and enough times.

5. A configuration that worked flawlessly with TWC in Upstate New York
for at least 3 years would not work in Reno, forcing me to put hacks in
place to address the issue.

6. Random changes are made to their service without notification.

7. When service is disrupted, there is no number to call to find out
"Current Outages".

8. They have effectively rendered my network space unusable by blocking
all incoming ports except 22. It is my impression that this will be
blocked in the near future also. The tech said "We are blocking all of
the first 1500 ports."

-I will be canceling my service with Charter as soon as possible. You
should too.

I second that motion Todd. Good Riddance Charter.
