If your console ends up in a weird state, just type "reset" and that should put it back to normal. I have similar problems with minicom. I'm a bit excited to discover cu, it works just as I want it to, even though it appears to lack scripting/logging like minicom. There is probably a unixy way to work around this deficiency, however. -- Mark C.
