Help! I spent 9 hours yesterday trying to re-install then install some flavor of Linux on a pc with nothing but frustration to show. There must be something simple I'm missing in the install routine.
First of all - I screwed up my system by not building a new kernel when I wanted to check out one that did not use SMP. Dumb - Yeah I don't need to hear it. First tried to repair: Sort of worked... But XServer seems to be screwed. System was On the re-install Suse 9.2 Pro Gets as far in YAST as the configuration - tells me it can find no packages to install and craps out. Doesn't matter if I use the CD or the DVD. Knoppix Spends 45 minutes to come to a screen like it is installing then freezes on the line for the sound card Redhat 9 Forget it. Fedora Core 3 Gets as far as a "blue screen" that says "Welcome to Fedora Core" then locks up. Is there something I need to set differently because of the system I have? Here are the specs: Pentium 4 3.2G Extreme with HT Ram - 2Gb Twin 160 HDDs on SATA connections Samsung DVD-WR Generic DVD-R Inside the BIOS - it appears as though I have 4 separate IDE's All of the above drives are listed as such as master on each channel. If I cannot solve this problem by tonight - I may have to switch to Billyware, I have just about run out of time and have a backlog of work I MUST get done. If someone wants to come over and help hands on - I'd even spring for dinner, but at the moment I'm tempted to put an axe through the machine. Dennis Fedora Core 2 Starts looping over and over saying it is stopping IRQ 10. _______________________________________________ RLUG mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.rlug.org/mailman/listinfo/rlug
