I had held meeting at Denny's on Nugget Ave and East McCarran. It is free
but they encouraged us to buy at least drinks if not dinners. While we were
there, some of us bought the dinners and some of us bought the drinks. I
never used their projector simply because my friend has the projector. It
is very convenient and it is off I-80 at E. McCarran.

The Denny's on N. McCarran has a private dining room for groups. I don't
know if they charge or not (maybe a minimum food order?), but they *do*
have a projector.

I won't swear to it, but I think that CompUSA may also make their
meeting room available for non-profits at no charge. You might want to
check that out.

Speaking of survey sheets, do we have the results for that? Also, what
did I miss at the RLUG meeting? Sounds like there was quite the
discussion on Bash.

So far we have:
Walden's
BrewHouse
Denny's N. McCarran
CompUSA

Ideally, I'd rather have the meetings held at a local business or
government office, because we are the Reno Linux Users Group, and we
want to support the Reno community. This isn't a hard-fast rule, but if
we make a choice I want it to try to keep certain ideas in mind.

Here are current results from the online survey (11 participants to
date). View the HTML email for a prettier view.

Apologies for the cut/paste, but the software doesn't have a public
results page.

1 I am using Mandrake 10.0 at the moment, I have about 2 years of
experience with mostly Mandrake. I have learned the basics of getting
apache up and running, and configured. My server is online right now, at
http://jeffshippen.homelinux.com. I joined RLUG about 2 weeks ago. I
would consider myself a GNU/Linux newbie, and plan on attending meetings
as often as I can. I am a commandline and GUI user, I consider both to
be very powerful/useful. I wish to learn as much as I can from RLUG, but
only learning would be selfish, so I hope to contribute too. Thanks Jeff
Shippen
1 I still don't "get" Linux. If it's any consolation, I don't "get"
OSX
yet either, and I've owned nearly every Mac ever made, including a Lisa.
I'm missing something fundamental - don't know what, I just don't grok
it. Packages, builds, root - there's a blank spot where convergence
should be. But every post to RLUG helps - and someday...
1 Started as an applied math computer science major working with big
iron - way back when....primary data input was via punched paper cards -
started into the pc side of things about 1986, currently
manage/administer small 6 node network in my office. One unit is a
linux/M$ machine with VMWare. Primary home machine is a dual boot with a
wireless network for 2 laptops and another desktop. I wish there were
more mainstream apps for Linux -accounting (Quickbooks) is one example.
Would like to see a short term class on the GIMP.
1 This survery RULES!!!

Tim has the survey sheets. I looked at some of them. A couple of people said

they would come no matter what. One indicated they would like more on
installing the various distros. Don't remember any other specific comments.
We had a small turnout. I thought Tim's presentation was excellent and Todd
did his usual good job of preparation. Rich
