If you can see the Hilton or the Silver Legacy, we have wireless. I'd love to roll out a residential version of the product. The Silver Legacy site is limited to 2 Mb/s up and down, but if you can see the Hilton, we have 6x3 Mb/s. What would you consider a reasonable monthly price to be for 6 Mb/s wireless? (Setup fees would be $0.)

How true that is! I get pretty good speeds where I'm at (Pyramid/Greenbrae in Sparks) but I've not had experience with it in more outlying areas. Have you checked out hdiss.net's wireless? I kinda know the guy who runs that. Last I checked, their setup fees were high (~$250) but it was only $50/mo. They come out and install a dish on your roof (or wherever) that points to Slide Mtn where they have one of their access points. Last I talked to Doug (about a year ago?) he had some nice fast access and static IP's, even out in the Fernley/Fallon/Silver Springs area. If you need the faster connectivity in outlying areas, its worth a look. Tell him Ryan at American Internet sent ya, if you do :)

I've not tried any other local DSL providers (Hi Bruce) but then again
I've never had the need to.

The problem with DSL in Sparks isn't the ISPs, it's the telcos. In my
area, I'm far enough from the CO (~14k') that I'll be lucky to get a
128K downstream connection on a typical DSL line--and forget about the
3-6Mbps service they're advertising.

Heck, if I could get even 256K upstream from someone else, I'd have
ditched Charter a long time ago. I took a look at Clearwire recently,
but found that:

    1. Their rates are about the same as Charter, for half the speed.
    2. Their TOS isn't any better than Charter's.

Both GBIS and Pyramid need to buy their local loops from the telcos, so
once again the small fry are at the mercy of the monopolies. *sigh*
