I used to work in the credit processing industry and yes processors do
charge for fail attempts.

It is a transaction fee. Not a successful transaction fee.

Yes, First Horizon/First Tennessee charges us, too. We wouldn't know,
except that on our monthly statement we can see the total number of
transactions, as well as the number of transactions for which we were
charged the 20 cent transaction fee. Rodopi even tries cards that are
expired, so you get charged for that, too!

We manage it by checking failed credit cards twice a week. I create a
ticket explaining why I took the account off auto ccard billing, set the
customer to a mailed statement, e-mail the customer, then print a statement
and the e-mail (for the ones who don't read e-mail) and mail that to the
customer. If the card was "soft-declined" I let it try for a few more days.
I have a folder of "canned" e-mails that I send, based on why the card was
declined, so the whole process doesn't take more than a few minutes.

Has anyone dealt with being charged a transaction fee everytime a credit
card fails to go through?

In rodopi's automated feature using ICVerify. This is getting to be a large
fee each month we pay for cards that don't go through for various reasons.

As one knows it will charge these cards 30 nights a month if it doesn't go
through..
What can one do its to hard to watch failed transactions on a daily basis!!!
