Well, I personally never really worry about how the community will react to my ideas. Very few players are conscious of the struggle between different genres of the text-based game, or at most they have a personal preference. If the game is good, it will get players regardless of what base it uses. Or at least, I'd like to think so. > Also, would anyone (especially the license holders) have any problem > with programmers using the ROM combat system as a guideline to code > an RP MOO? I know a lot of people could consider it stealing. I I seriously doubt it, so long as you don't actually use ROM code. If you look around, the ROM/Diku/Merc combat system is fairly derivative of other RPGs also. It's not really that complicated, and much of it is common to all round-based combat systems. > Would that work any better than a MOO, or is it just a fix for those > who prefer sticking with ROM instead of porting the whole thing to > MOO Code? We'll call it a shortcut :) If done well, it should let you script most of what happens in the game. If done poorly, it should at least give you some really cool mobprogs. --Palrich.
