IG, an alias should be a room. You should be able to configure an SMTP
name for all rooms. then when you go in to edit a room (ANY room) you
should be able to specify (if you're an aide) network distribution
parameters for that room, which could be IGnet, outgoing email echo,
theoretically NNTP, etc.

Since some aliases are not for public consumption, it should be possible
to specify that any messages posted to a room are not stored in the room,
but only forwarded to whoever/wherever is specified as the network
distribution.

Users should be able to manage private address books as personal rooms.
They could for example archive anything sent to the address book in the
room. I have no strong opinion on the visibility of such personal
addressbook rooms--SMTP recipients could see <undisclosed recipients> or
they could see [EMAIL PROTECTED] or it could be an option...

 Just my opinion...
