I successfully published our model on a fast HP(300Mhz?) with more
memory(512M?). It seems like Rose Web can turn 13M of mdl and cat files
into 148M of html files using/leaking 236M of RAM in two hours. This cannot
be an efficient process, but the results are spectacular!

My model (mdl and cat files) is 13M on disk. Using the top command
on Rose
with no model loaded shows (SIZE/RES) 19M/10M; with my model loaded
shows
59M/50M; after successful publishing of half the model 122M/113M;
after
failing to publish the whole model and issuing Out of Memory Error
140M/116M.
I can only successfully publish both halves of the model separately
by
exiting rose and reloading the model. This leads me to believe that
there
is a memory leak somewhere.
My SA claims that one process is only allowed 67M, but he is out
today.

We had a similar problem simply loading a model when it got
over
640M. This
was no longer evident in 2000e but our model used less
memory in
2000e and
we were not hitting the limit. The problem seemed to be in
the
SmartHeap
library, which is a third party memory management subsystem
of rose.
When
we upgraded to Rose 2000e we also installed the circular
dependencies
patch. As I have stated our model does not ,however, get to
the
magic 640M
in 2000e so I am not sure if the problem has been fixed. I
would
also check
your model for hanging relationships. These are not visible
in the
browser
and can only be found through the API. I would also look for
circular
dependencies, again this is best done through the API.

Is this a server or a workstation? Do you have an SA there?
I'm not
an
expert on HP-UX or an SA, but you might try increasing the
virtual
memory. This is done on Linux by increasing the swap space,
I
believe.
I'm sure HP-UX has a similar mechanism. You might also be
able to
tell
how much virtual memory you have available at the time you
are
getting
the "out of memory" error with the "top" command or similar.
